Putting aside whether or not it was one of my better ideas to buy these two hydrovane compressors (both 6PU) - and I have been told they need regular use, before I stat taking random bits to pieces, can I have some advice please.
These were purchased as spares or repair. On had (still has) and air leak from somewhere,,,.
The other, after sorting out the minimum pressure valve, would run up to pressure nice and quickly and would hold that pressure. I wanted it for light use (no huge capacity) to give me quick access to air for inflating tyres, the CNC plasma cutter etc. I had been told they need regular use, so every 2-3 days I'd run it for 20 -30 minutes. Then one day it had trouble starting (the equivalent of coughing and spluttering) stalled and blew the fuse (13A). I replaced the fuse, it ran for a few seconds, not anywhere near full speed and blew the fuse. I noticed oil coming out of the air filter, it is coming from the unloader valve. As the other compressor worked OK (apart from the lair leak) I swapped the unloader valves over in case that was it - the symptoms remain.
Looking through the trouble shooting chart there is nothing similar - "Compressor keeps stopping" could be oil relief valve not seating - but no mention of oil through the unloader valve, or "Oil coming from air intake...." is a problem with the Unloader Valve, but I have ruled that out.
The Oil Relief Valve is buried in with the motor/vane and is quite a task to get out!
Any thoughts?
Cheers
