Hydrovane 87 start up

I have a Hydrovane 87 15kw motor to get wired in to my workshop. An old school friend (Electrician) is going to do it. He asked me if the compressor has a soft start up so it doesn't blow up a transformer in the area. I presume it will have soft start? Anybody help?

just looked on hydrovane's web site and although your model didn't pop up soft start was listed as an optional extra

A soft start may not be part of the actual compressor, if there is one it will be in line with the 3 phase and he should be able to identify it. Does he mean a star delta starter rather than soft start? (A soft starter is a box of electronics which gives the motor a slow ramp up preventing the big current surge, a star delta starter is an arrangement of contactors which switches the motor between 2 "modes" giving a reduced current during start up - 2 different methods of achieving the same thing really)

He may mean an unloader valve which will prevent the compressor from starting "under load" giving the motor time to spin up to speed before it starts to do real work.

hope your power supply is up to it at 62 amp draw and then what will start up be, 100 ?

At least, it'll be a fair bit more for the first second or so!! (Edit -Unless a soft start is fitted)

On the circuit diagram on the compressor it has a star delta timer so presume as mentioned above this will allow the motor to start up gradually.

For industrial 15Kw is a fairly standard motor size, shouldn't imagine you will have to many problems. But if you're running close to your supply max you might be better running it on continuous when blasting or similar high air demand applications to reduce the startup loading on the supply fuses.
