Hydrovane price

I am currently keeping my eyes open for a cheap hydrovane to compliment my current compressor, was thinking the 1.5hp one would be enough for what I need. What sort of price should I pay for a used and untested head end or 3 phase one requiring a new motor, then what sort of price should a single phase one be. It's just prices seem all over the place on eBay. I am not bothered about a receiver as will run it into my existing setup, main reason is to reduce the running time of my clarke machine when using my airfed mask.

Hydrovane's are very fussy on maintenance, I'd be wary of buying from an unknown source. Besides 1.5hp HV will cost many times more than a pump type.

I had a 3kw one a while back, thought it was a good deal as it was very cheap, wired it in & it ran but obviously wasnt very well. The cost of the parts to rebuild it was astronomical well over £750. I scrapped it. Oh well!

Stick with simple reciprocating compressors at that sort of size, go for a belt driven unit if possible, they are quieter than the direct drive ones and tend to be better quality, always try to see a second hand unit running before buying it so you can check for nasty noises & blow by etc

Already have a 3hp clarke industrial, but I wouldn't say any piston compressor is quiet. I have improved its air intake so it's acceptable for how much I use it, problem I have is it works hard when I am painting with an airfed mask and I thought maybe adding another compressor albeit a quiet one would improve my air quality as the longer a compressor runs the more moisture needs to be removed. I have a small 2hp direct drive unit as well but didn't want two noisy compressors running at same time.

I see, an auto drain on the tank would help with the water. A second tank inline would also allow the water to drop out. We have some nice Kaeser screw compressors at work, they are very quiet with there acoustic covers on but they aren't cheap! So I make do with a old Clark too!

problem with hydrovanes is they are really good compressors desinged for industrial use. chances are any 2nd hand unit is 2nd hand for a reason as it's not one of those bits of kit that likely to suddenly become redundant.

have a pair of very nice looking hydrovanes burryed in the workshop that people keep trying to buy off me, sadly tho they are both knackerd else id be useing them myself quotes to overhaul them were truely horrific but i keep thretaning to take them apart and try a diy overhaul or make 1 out the two one day

I bought one new and its been brilliant. But you do have to use them with care. They need to get up to temperature which is 65C on a regular basis or they turn the oil to mayo. They are very quiet and produce consistent volume of air at the claimed CFM.
