I've somehow built up a collection of hydrovanes

2 big ones 2 little ones

they could all do with a service and a good going over

I'm crazy busy and we'll have a new machine in soon which uses a lot of air, I'll need 100% uptime on it so looking to have them services by someone else


I had one serviced by a Thorite years ago when I had by first one struggled getting bits (compressor had a Thorite sticker on the side of it)

but it came back to me worse than when it was taken

they came out for another look, then made all manor of excuses, the manager of the places was a real piece of work


I remember a website years ago when I was looking for parts, real guys in the shed type vibe... but for the life of me I can't find it again

anyone have any ideas?

if I'm going to go to a "main dealer" type place and be billed thousands I might as well just buy a brand new one and service these myself and backups

(thorite original quote for work was £1400... silly things like replacing the wire to it, new fan guard, new feet etc. etc. etc. stuff that was 100% fine )

I've used www.compressorman.co.uk in the past - helpful and reasonably priced, and they know their way round most compressors.

Don’t get rid of the old ones when you buy a new one. Customer of mine bought a new one because he was going on holiday for a couple of weeks and didn’t want to risk his old one breaking down whilst he was away. Well….it died within two and a half months….Definetly not a happy camper as he hasn’t got his old one back from being rebuilt yet. And this isn’t from Fred in the Shed compressors either, it was through an approved hydrovane stockist/ agent…

The new ones vandalise themselves to death very quickly as the motor could do with a soft start, they are brutal on start up and hammer the living bejesus out the coupling in very short order

deffo keeping the old ones

I've got 2 piston compressors too... a little one and a big one, the little one is more than enough for what we need right now

there's a 2000litre air tank.... one time someone unplugged the compressor and we didn't notice for a month :-o
