So what is my best course of action to stop stuff turning brown after i have finished welding it

I have a serious paint phobia, I will not paintmy stuff and that's that.
I like to let it rust and keep it real.or rust it and varnish it, a great finish, looks a bit like metal flake and changes colour as the light changes.
Paint? Satan'sown invention, all it does is hide things. Ha!!

Galv is another good option, but can be expensive.

Re galvanizing, I have found the people who do it are so fecking unhelpful!!
They dont seem to be interested in doing small jobs, even if they can overcharge the customer. eg ''aarrrhhh, caaaant be dooing thaaaaat'' (Herefordshireites)

Dont they realise that they can charge what they like and my punter will pay it? Drives me mad.

Small stuff like brackets and stands and other stuff that is way too small to bother galvanising and i just want a quick and easy solution to stop it rusting away and ideally one that is cheap.

I like you thinking what kind of varnish do i need?

apart from galve rough up parts with emery or sandblast .then coat with 2k acid etch then a decent enamel or whatever comes cheap

I was more thinking of splash product X on it and ignore for many years

I just need to find product X

You still haven't actually said what its for - outdoors near the sea? Indoors at the back of a kitchen cupboard etc...?

Chunko - just save up the bits to be galvanised until you get to a decent weight?

Rust needs moisture and an oxidant, so how is it that when I cover a section of metal up with paint, the rust always seems to come back eventually? I would of thought that the paint acts like a barrier, stopping moisture and air getting to the metal? What I've found is that if I heat the metal up slightly with a heat gun, prior to painting, It stands a better chance of keeping the rust out. It could be that there are small amounts of moisture left in the metal that gets covered when you pain. Also warming the metal up a little help the primer penetrate more. Just a thought.
