I got a free compressor

My neighbour's brother works at the golf course near me. They were chucking this compressor out because one of the switches is broken. He knows what I'm like and offered it to me to see if I can fix'er up.
Well it all works perfectly, but when it has cut out once the pressure has been reached, it doesn't start up again. You can bend your hand into the belt guard and press the re-set button to get it going again, but obviously this isn't ideal so I'm gonna get a new switch and see if it helps matters. Do you think that's what it is?

Couldn't believe it when he dropped it off, way better than I thought it was gonna be.

Those pressure/ start switches often burn out and are an easy cheap fix, around 15 quid will get a new one but it will burn out again, go for the industrial one available from Thorite, they cost more but are worth it if you keep the compressor. I was at my local tyre place the other day and they were just about to chuck their compressor because of a similar problem, i whipped the top off the start switch and true enough it was contacts burnt out, 20 quid later and job done, hmmmmm i didn't get my puncture done for free though

i just use the pressure switches on comps to operate a contactor saves burning them out

Do you mean the pressure switch or a reset button on the motor?

Does it hiss when it cuts out?

Sounds like the reset on the motor - I picked up a compressor with exactly the same symptoms, but usually I just reset it! Interested to see if it can be easily fixed though...

That hiss is the all-important indicator.

If you don't get it the delivery pipe isn't unloading so when the motor restarts it will be under load and so trip the cut-out.
