just bought a 160 amp inverter to practice welding it was going well until the copper wire mesh on the earth(clamp) melted completly threw what am i doing wrong , would really appreciate some advice thhanks
The usual cause of overheating is a bad connection, the cable connecting to the clamp should be tight and the clamp itself tight on the workpiece. The area on the workpiece where the clamp fits should be cleaned back to bright metal.
If you have a crocodile clip clamp you'd be better off replacing it with one that you can screw down.
Any chance of a picture? Is the mesh you refer to the cable between the clamp and the welder, or is it a short piece that connects the two halves of the clamp?
