My partners sister has a corsa, reg HV14WCC

It's broken, miles away, at a garage, and she is asking me about parts... And now I'm asking you as I have zero idea about corsa.


The issue is that the ignition switch seems knackered. Need to turn the key multiple times before it starts. She got recovered to a garage who now reckon that the part from vaxhaull comes as part of a set, total price £1400 !?!

They're happy for her to get a part from a breakers etc. and sent her this -

If I Google "Delphi 56155" loads of hits come up for Vauxhall parts but then virtually none of them actually mention the Delphi part number, which seems odd.

I reckon someone here will know (again I know it's not a car forum so I'm just asking a 1 off favor!) - do I just order some random parts that comes up in my Google search, or is anyone able to tell me, specifically, to "buy this, from here, and it will work"


This is for my partners sister whom I once asked "how much did it need" after advising her on what oil she needed, to be met with a blank look, and the words "I put it all in".

(I spent the next few hours draining the coolant system)


...but, right now, I'm nowhere close, and both she, and my partners mum, both rely on the vehical that needs a new ignition switch.

I dont know if you can swap the lock barrel, or if that is the lart you also need to replace. You may need to find one that comes with a key.

Then the issue of immobiliser, most cars have one.

I suspect theres a good reason for the £1400 charge, with no easy solution.

1400 quid 'could' be reasonable, but as with you I know nothing of corsas...indo however know that when I was on recovery a few cars I picked up that had similar issues weren't worth repairing due to the cost compared to a new vehicle.

Not saying it is a 1400 quid repair, but I wouldn't be surprised

The reg is 2014, and loads of the listings claim an earlier date range for the part.

This one seems in line, but the date still confuses me.

I assumed they were some sort of radio thing, and the ignition switch was a normal switch?

It seemed that turning the key a few times was what was needed (ie physically rattling it about) which would imply the switch in the barrel.

Id assume she would be able to change the metal key that came with a new switch onto her old key body?

Or, worst case scenario, add the old body to her key ring?

Yes it looks like the part linked by Blobber, fits in the middle of the barrel, so you should be able to swap that.

Dont forget the ignition barrel will need removing to fit the switch

I've instructed her to mail the eBay switch seller with her reg to confirm, as the eBay system seems to say it's not suitable (we all think it probably is, but belt and braces and all that)

Once she has confirmation, I've advised contacting the garage, as, as we all know, sometimes, whilst you can get the actual broken part, it's simpler to do the whole assembly as you can't get the small bit out. So I reckon she should confirm with the garage that they're happy to work with just the switch, else it will be a second hand assembly, I guess.

So that's where we are at.

No reason why you can’t unless there is a need for the physical blade to manually lock a door.

you worry me, draining oil from a coolant system ??

I'd suggest hopping over to one of the Vauxhall specific forums, chances are you will get more detail on the subject.

For example, this sounds suspiciously like the reason for the price:

There should be a transponder in the key which will match the immobiliser, sometimes these can be built into the switch or as a separate ring or sensor nearby.
I've no idea on the Corsa D, but that's worth keeping in mind when buying a second hand one, as if it is then recoding it is going to require somebody with specific diagnostics.

You may be better off consulting an automotive locksmith rather than a general garage.

Should be able to swap the blade of the key into the old key and keep the same transponder/buttons and immobiliser.

That's the immo ring etc.

By the sounds of it your saying it's more a mechanical fault with the barrel and key which can get swapped out.

Ignition switch would be a cheap option if that is at fault.

Or is it a poor diagnosis and is actually the immobiliser playing up like the chevrolets used to?
