One thing they don't mention is maintenance, a traditional piston compressor may need some oil once in a blue moon, maybe an oil change if you are working it hard.
These compressors need regular filter and separator changes as part of the maintenance routine, this is not an inconsiderate amount in a typical home workshop.
Look up Bambi compressors, they're silent* and use scroll compressors but are a bit more well known. I believe dentists tend to use scroll comps too, I'm sure I've seen them on eBay before.
The sad thing about this is that they are expensive at the moment because they are properly made with good machining which is way more critical than on a piston pump. Once they start driving them into the bottom end of the market there is no way they will be warranting them for 100,000 hours.
I do love it when someone quotes an example of 2hrs a day 365 days a year then says "it's a long time" probably because he didn't want to say it had a 137 year warranty
