I need a low consumption (amps) air compressor with a fairly large air reservoir (say 100lts)

Flow rate? That'll be the main deciding factor on current required unless you can let the receiver charge up between bursts.
PS I wouldn't consider 100l a big receiver on this forum... Admittedly now in a dedicated workshop rather than garage but mine's a piddly 250l receiver...

you dont say what cfm pump and motor size you want and what you want to spend. get a small pump with a big tank and it will have to run twice as long as a bigger pump on same size tank

I did say I was after a GENERAL air compressor!!!

I simply want air for the odd job,

I know all about CFM and FAD requirements, as I own two VERY large compressors and they are geared for a specific job

I don't want to keep firing them up to do GENERAL work like blowing down my lath etc.

I would there for like quite, and low eclectic consumption compressor thats all

Its been years since I purchased my cast iron cylinder air compressors so I did not know what the modern market has to offer hence my question

One thing i will say, I am not a fan of the screamers that rev 50,000 rpm because they lack oomph

No need to bite our heads off. One man's general is another man's not really bothered.

To me, for example, a general compressor would handle all tasks such as blowing off, running a few air tools, bit of spraying, schultz guns etc. If its literally just blowing off a lathe then the requirements are far different.

What about finding an old fridge compressor or something like that, just mate it up to your existing air system and then it can chug away in the background quietly charging up your existing tanks.

If you suddenly demand a lot of air then the big ones can kick in (after all you can just switch them off if you really don't want them to kick in).

well you wont get a small compressor with a big tank and all cheapo pumps run fast with limited run time and direct drive make a racket

One of the small Clarke Shh 2/9 types is rated at 1.8A. Although it's small, it is portable (add wheels, even better), and may be quite suitable for the odd small job here and there.

Milwaukee and a few others do cordless blow guns , they look like a hot air gun but blow hard and dont heat ,, may be an option .

for 200 smackers, that might well fit my needs, and its a nice small size 1.5HP motor, most are 2HP
