Hello every body i've just joined your site, so a little about me
I have been welding for years, but now i have to revert back to my old gas welding because i had a pacemaker put in last october which make electric welding a bit tricky.
Just bought myself a new welding kit and am about to start, but i need to know the best place to get the gas from any ideas. also i have read a threads about the perfect vice and i also would like to know where to get parts from as the spring has gone.
its a No 37 model J 41/2" jaws any ideas. cheers, nick.

Welcome aboard. Is Mig welding a health hazard with pacemakers? or not?
Obviously not the kind of thing to take lightly.
Gas? I have a great supplier in Herefordshire, not to far away if you are stuck.

i was sick of trying to scrounge CO2 off everyone in the pub trade so in the end i opened an account with air products and got my self a large bottlle of arg/Co2 mix...paid £57 for intial bottle and gas which is fine but the rent is £10 a month my welds have got better thou since

Apparently any type of Electric welding sends the old pacemaker into orbit and the old ticker may stop.
It interferes with the micro chip embedded in the chest.
i live in Coventry ( not good i know but someone has to live here),thanks for the info but i think roofman would be a better betas we have an Air Products in the city.
I'm mainly into Motorcycle restoration ( classics) so i think gas will give me a little more control, but i will pick your brains at a later stage if that is ok.

Welcome - I'm new here too and new to welding (see my gallery)!

Sorry to hear about the ticker. Have you thought about a Faraday cage? I can't see it being too difficult to make a jacket with a thin wire matrix. Easy to test too for ultimate safety. It might mean you can carry on with good old arc welding!

Nowt wrong with gas welding/brazing ......have you spoken to your insurance company ? I was under the impression they increase your premiums if acetylene is stored at home?.....Welcome to the forum Nick

I used to play with neon sign transformers (20,000 volts) and built a Tesla coil but would still be worried about the real high voltage stuff! There are some interesting videos on youtube of people 'playing' on pylons <shudder>
