I'm not sure if this is the right thread, but I need ideas for some projects?

Hey all, kinda new here so briefly:
I've been welding for 9-10 years(26yo)
MIG - Mild steel / Stainless / aluminium
TIG - stainless/ alloy

I have a small TIG which wouldn't be much use for heavy welding, and I have a Jefferson 275 MIG.

Bottom line is, I want too start on my own before I'm 30, I'm fed up of working for £10 an hour and the same rate for overtime.

But what do I make ? Or do I but cards everywhere to say I'm available too weld things?

You could try setting up making stuff in your spare time and see if people buy it.
My old boss did lot by placing an ad in the paper Pair of drive way gates brand new bought in error, when some one rang up to ask the size he asked " what size do you need I will measure them and call you back", he just made a set to the size you wanted.

Many people are on a lot less, I know a few self employed people who would make more working for some one else, thats why I say do it asa hobby and see if it takes off, you would still need liability insurance etc

You will get some old fella turning up wanting his garden fork welded for a quid, or a farmer expecting you to hump your gear 20 miles to weld his trailer for a fiver and a bag of spuds.

Identify a specific item, preferably not seasonal, make it better than anyone else, become known for your work and don't undercharge, you can get loads of work if you charge virtually nothing, problem is you starve to death.
