Impact gun PCL coupling

Hi there,

My impact gun requires a 10mm hose size which I have. Can I use a PCL standard quick disconnect on the hose and gun even though the bore of the coupling is 4.8mm? Or will I need to get a coupling with a 10mm bore such as the PCL 100 series?

Edit: the gun has a 1/4" inlet.

I would go with the 100 series my 3/4 gun will not work effectively unless using 100 series.

Sorry I should have mentioned that the gun has a 1/4" inlet. You can't get the 100 series in 1/4", only 1/2 and 3/8, therefore I would have to use a reducing adapter to step it down to 1/4, therefore making the use of the 100 series pointless if I have to step down to a restrictive 1/4" adapter?

I used to drill out the hole through the1/4 bsp male hose tail, to the max size poss before fitting a whip hose, then use the 100 series

Another way to open out a 1/4 hose tail is to use it as a blast nozzle for a while.

Looking at the PCL website it says that the standard couplings can flow 43 cfm @ 100 lbf/in² (6.9 Bar). Surely this coupling should flow more than enough for what the gun requires?

There must be a commerically available solution rather than drilling out 1/4" fittings as I can't see that being an industry standard

That maybe what they say but in practice my gun worked a lot better and there was a noticable difference in available impact clout, on 100 series and with drilled out hose tail, because they are quite restrictive in standard form i found.

I'd give it a go.
Yes, a smaller bore may appear to defeat the purpose of having a large bore pipe, but it isn't as simple as that. It doesn't make the whole thing pointless.
Over a short space - such as a connector - it has less effect that if say the whole air line was small. There are figures somewhere that show this - for example, a 90 degree elbow may be the equivalent of say 10m of hose. A 1/4 restriction may be similar to another 10 feet of 3/8 air hose. That kind of thing.

why does it have to be industry standard?
