Imperial Taper Pin

My father is after a steel taper pin 17/64", (large end) 2" length with 1:48 taper on diameter,
Is anyone with a lathe/hobby lathe able to turn one and post??

Are you certain about the 17/64"? I've a 2" one measuring 1/4" at the fat end.

I did wonder that Seadog, 1/4" x 2" is a pretty standard size. 17/64" suggests an over-reamed hole!

Standard size pins are all over fleabay.

might do (5/16" x 3"), but draw them out to see if they go small enough.

As Mr Seadog says, I do not think you can buy in 64th increments.

Probably easier to get a taper reamer and just make it standard

He has tried a 1/4” and a 9/32” taper pin but needs to be in between!
He’s worked it out that 17/64” would be ideal fit but like many have said l - not standard on the shelf & thought I’d try here.
I think like Agroshield mentioned, maybe best to get next largest standard size but a longer pin and trim down length.

Personally I'd put a drill through it and use a roll pin or loctite in a solid pin.

A 6mm x 50mm metric one would be the closest to the size you quote, roughly 12 thou' bigger throughout its length, but would need a very light ream into a 1:50 taper.

6mm will be too small, as 1/4" is slightly bigger and a 1/4" pin is still not quite large enough.
Gone for an off the shelf 3" 9/32 (next size up) pin, this should fit, and with the extra length will trim the excess off, probably a bit each end to suit.

FYI, metric taper pins are measured/specified from/at the small end so at 50mm long, it will be 7mm dia. at the big end and it will fit.
