Indoor firepot

Just made myself an indoor firepot, its fuelled with ethanol. Works brilliantly, the flat lid snuffs it out instantly. The fuel is absorbed into a chopped up fire blanket. Warms a room in about five minutes, does not smell and is great to watch. Well pleased with it.

Not commenting on the original post which is a nice piece of work but I have wondered generally about house insurance.

My premium would be increased if anyone in the house smoked yet they dont ask about 'er indoors filling the living room with candles.

I suppose if they felt we were negligent and there was a fire they would certainly use it to 'adjust the loss' which I call wriggling out of their commitment but that's a third digression .

smoking is slightly different as people are known to fall asleep with one lit in their hand where as you don't hold candles even though they have caused fires they are a lesser risk

Hey Chunko' how you doing brother?! I love this idea, a friend got a little fire for her lounge, it uses a fuel (not sure what fuel) and has no flue or chimney.

On another similar subject, I've been burning my gas forge in the shop with all doors closed. I have no idea how fast oxygen is used up and carbon monoxide builds up?

Love this though, I want one!

How long does it last? about ten fifteen minutes on a teacup of fuel. The fuel is dead cheap.
Pondman, good to see you back around the place. Sorry to hear about your recent history. I remember it well myself.
Keeping very well here. Sorry I missed you last year; weeks later I found I had sent the directions to the wrong person.
one thing if you make one the fuel container needs to be thin walled. I used a 7" cake tin and filled it with chopped up fire blanket.
if you use thick walls they heat up and boil the fuel. I have used it lots now and it seems perfectly safe.

Watch out for running a gas forge inside without stuffient air changes. Get hold of a carbon monoxide meter, don't cost a lot but will tell you when it's dangerous. I use one that has a digital readout. Remember CO build up over time, head aches are a sign of CO poisoning.
