Induction Forge

Induction forges; are they as good as they are shown in the videos, and if so are there any UK suppliers.

I have a semi-regular job where I roll 10 X 50 msf into a "C" shape with a finished CLR of about 17.5mm or CLD of 35mm, so they get hot bent around a piece of 25mm diameter bar.

Currently ESTS here in Norwich allow me to use their Oxy-propane to do this and I get about 36 of them done in about 2 to 2&1/2 hours.

For 3 or 4 years I have been getting around to making a gas bottle bodied propane forge, but its one of those projects that just keeps slipping back.

Recently I started to look for propane forges and came across Induction forges, and if they are as good as the YouTube videos make them out to be, and if the price is right then I'm right at the front of that queue!

the videos look accurate...i used to use one for re-tipping brazed turning tools as an apprentice...put the tip on, bit of brazing wire on too, stick it in hit the button and watch it all glow...

the one i used as an apprentice only heated ferrous materials...or atleast i was told it only heated ferrous anyway...guy training me used a bit of copper in it, ran it through a cycle and then grabbed bare handed to show it was cool afterwards, maybe it just wasnt heating long enough to actually get it hot?

I've seen a similar type of induction forge at a place in Sheffield that forges titanium round bar to make artificial knee joints.

Maybe @123hotchef can help as he recently bought something similar from eBay

it could work as a forge the coil can be water cooled for prolonged use so why now seen videos on utube of people using them for forges

We had inducting heated equipment at work , it heated screws to red heat then dropped them into water, the tooling gripping the screws were copper,

I think but don't quote me that as long as the metal is magnetic it should work as it's magnetic type trickey that makes it work

Would appear alloy is OK as well

We used to use em furnaces to melt glass, the water cooler coils went around a platinum alloy crucible.
