industrial compressor set up, 300l tandam singlephase and more

we currently have a 300l tandam single phase compressor which we use for spraying and air impact wrenches, but we always want that little bit more lol so we are going to set up a diesel road compressor with a large industrial gas tank, goin to use 32mm blue water pipe to plumb it into the workshop, plenty of air for a 1" airgun or even for spraying if we wanted to. just wondering if anyone else has tried this setup???

Will the blue pipe take the pressure? Plastic for compressed pipes is a specialised material. Ordinary plastic can shatter under pressure and send high-speed shards through the air.

MDPE is normally about 12bar max pressure, at 20 degrees, id imagine thats reduced in cold or harsh enviroments.

Our workshop is piped with steel pipe, threaded fittings welded to the pipes for takeoffs, valves...

well the old compressor ring is blue 20mm waterpipe and its ina bout a year now and no leaks or problems, its not regulated from the compressor so its the full 9 bar or 145psi or watever the compressor can raise.

Normal rigid plastic water pipe can burst and send shards into the air, potentially maiming or killing people. There is proper airline plastic hard line that is made with fibres in the plastic casing so that they split without shattering, it could be that the original is the fibre reinforced stuff.
Also if its significantly under pressure and it gets bumped say with a forklift or trolley, that can trigger off a explosion...

A local pipes and fittings supplier does a range of plastic air pipe by John Guest/Speedfit. It's black, and push in couplings.

The push fit type fittings you list si are similar to that Iv used on Air brakes when making trailers, The Suzi's main and safety lines are ran on tube that describes itself as little more than coloured polyurethane,7 Bar working pressure, Its a hell of a lot thinner than water pipe........

How can 3 or two line, trailer brakes fail? the whole concept means that any difference in pressure ie a line damage apply the brakes, hence two lines being need with equal pressure either line gets cut or severed brakes come on, Its completely fail safe, lines broken brakes on....

all the systems Iv ever put on have been in kit form with push fits.....A trailer running a red safety can never fail, even with a split diaphram.......

Yes but trailers are fail safe yes???? red line constant pressure yellow line supply, either line pops brakes on, trailer leaves unit brakes on, Its fail safe hence red line safety, I think your talking of lines past the secondary tanks.....


I'm sorry woody you,ve completely lost me on duel braking circuit, with spring parking brakes, it doesn't matter how many push connects or lines you cut, all that can happen is that the brakes come on..........


I don't know why the kits would come out with push fits either if they were illegal, and how can a push fit be more dangerous than a polly tube that can be trimmed with a pen knifeon a fail safe system.....

Looked at an FM7 dropping a bin into me this morning for repair/push fits, If its good enough for volvo.... no problems woody just couldn't understand as iv I always bought kits from commercial mfs.....

BTW never come across th plastic ones, always the brass bodys ones...........

Just to add a little to the HGV braking / push fit connection discussion, the 2nd generation Knorr-Bremse braking ECU will be introduced any time now, and is factory fitted with push fit connections. These are fully type approved.
We use a number of push fit connections on our trailer braking systems (13.6m artics) and providing you use the correct ones they are perfectly legal and reliable. I have never had a trailer fail at first MOT.
