Infrared heaters... worth the expense????

Drying problems could be an issue for me with 2k, my booth is approx. 26cu. mtres. What size wall mounted heater would I need to be effective at around 1.5mtres, or would a free standing, close up one be better. Either what heat and for how long. Don't want to melt my plastics

where about are you in East Yorks, I have 4 1kw bar heaters that would do the job. You can control them via rheostats. You can buy 1 2 3 or all 4 of them

Thanks for the reply but I really needed a single combined unit, need the info requested first though. Don't want to melt down.

Bit confused about infrared now, I have just been informed that these can soften/melt plastic panels which I will mainly be spraying. I am trying to get further info on this but if ok I am now considering ceiling mounting which may make a couple of yours possible. Can you send me a pic of one/these.

infa red heater needs to be pointing at the panel you want to heat , you dont stand em in the corner and it heats the whole booth

yeah they can be savage and melt plastic etc

I am aware of how the infrared heaters work and obviously plastic will melt at some point, just need to know an ideal heater for the job without getting anywhere near melting point, may not be practical. Have contacted specialist suppliers, see what they come up with.

It (the room) doesn't need to be scorching, about room temp or a pref bit warmer is fine. Check your paint data sheets for required temps. I've got two wall-mounted electric heaters and they're excellent. Of course you might have loads of space to heat. Doesn't seem like IR heaters are worth it really, except for directing at small parts. But seems better to heat the whole space and be able to do big and little things with one heating setup.

My heaters came second-hand out of an office that was being re-wired.

Have used el cheapo halogen heaters on 2k in the past with good results, i.e. warm the panel and not the surrounding air, the oscillating ones don't seem to overheat the panel too much - trial and error on the distance - but you can get them to keep the panel at a reasonably constant temp. Far better than without

I think you could well be right, distance and power. Trial and error. I have a couple of damaged plastics, may try an adjustable 2kw infrared on these. Have been told that boyshops spray 2k at around 30C and bake at 80C for 40mins.

Once you get the distance right, no problem, bought all the halogens (x4)for £24 and still have them, lot easier when you're touch dry in 10-20mins. By the way, this was spraying fibreglass in the middle of winter. With 2kw, don't get too close - too hot is no good either. Good luck with the spraying - it can be done

Bike fairing panels/tank are the larges I will ever do/have room for. All comments appreciated.
