Ingersoll Rand 242 Compressor - Remote Pressure Switch & Cylinder Reg

Hi guys,

Currently in the process of rewiring the garage at the new place we took over a couple of months ago. Thankfully the garage has an 9' by 11' room at the back, that apart from lacking an internal roof, has become a small store room for a business sideline, and the new home for the afore mentioned compressor.

This is so that the main garage isn't quite as loud as it would be if the compressor was simply stuck in the original spot I had planned for it. Now, the question is;

Is it possible for me to mount the cylinder pressure regulator, which is still currently attached securely to the compressor receiver, on the main garage side of the breeze block wall of the internal room, along with the pressure switch, etc?

This will all be connected through a DOL Starter and 32a Rotary Isolator in the main garage area.

OR

Am I better off leaving the cylinder pressure regulator on the compressor as is, and installing the DOL Starter and 32a Rotary Isolator in the positions I have planned?

If yours is like mine the pressure switch doesn't unload the pressure in the discharge side of the compressor like most but has a centrifugal switch type arrangement on the crank to unload as soon as the compressor stops, so if you want to have it remotely controlled leave the pressure switch where it is and just wire it up to the contactor where ever you would like it put.

I'd leave the pressure switch as is and move the regulator inside. That is how i have mine.

If you want to stop the compressor manually you'll need to have some provision to relieve the pressure in the pipe between the pump & tank. If you have the setup Eil describes then all well and good.

Otherwise you can move the pressure switch, but you'll need to extend the thin pipe that connects it to the non return valve. Use the knob on the pressure switch to stop the compressor, and open the isolator once it has stopped. I don't see the need for a DOL starter unless it has an overload device built in and the motor itself doesn't.

Whilst you're at it, some form of no-volt release could be useful if you have a power cut or accidentally switch the compressor off with the isolator. NVRs are sometimes incorporated in starters

The regulator is best sited as close as possible to where you're working.
