Ingersoll Rand 301B air die grinder

Having to do some welding in a hard to reach area of my Landrover I treated myself to a air die grinder.
I always try to buy quality tools if I can afford to so I paid four times the price of a cheapo Chinese one.
Well its turned up from Amazon Prime and I'm very concerned about quality control...
The top of the tool above the spindle is chamfered but only part way round the top!
I dread to think what tolerances the internals may be if they can't even get the chamfer on the outside right.
This one will go back and I'm seriously thinking I should just get the cheapo Clarke stuff.
Thoughts?

Sadly it does seem to be the modern way, i.e. re badge far eastern kit. Finding the good stuff is no longer a case of choosing a brand. The finish on that looks suspiciously like it’s far eastern made. Just the finish on the head raises questions, certainly not the Ingersoll Rand of the 80’s.

Universal are great for the money ,, Ive a fair few Dynabrades but its stuff I picked up second hand , very expensive new and unless your using it every day too dear.
The Universal stuff I have I like plenty of power and runs smooth , again an oiler in line and a few drops of oil or grease in gearboxes if needed helps too , but you must keep your compressor tank drained , its a fast way to kill air tools otherwise. And good quality burrs or abrasives , cheap ones or stones will have you spitting feathers in no time .

I have some CP stuff from the 90's that is far better finished then this IR one.

I think we are looking at a top down view of the head of an angle die grinder. i.e. the opposite end to the collet.
I think the issue is more cosmetic than functional?

To the OP, there is a lot of fake stuff around - so are you confident the amazon seller is selling genuine IR products?

I suppose you’ve two choices-

Send it back

Use it and see.

Unless you’re die grinding up a storm day in day out I’d think it’ll be fine as long as you oil it properly.

The supplier was Amazon so I would 'assume' this was genuine Chinese!
Replacement is on the way so we will see...

Oh well back to Chicago Pneumatic Chinese for my next purchase.
This IR grinder is nice though!
