Injected DPC on internal walls

Here we go again

There is some rising damp just above the skirting board on a 1890's terrace party wall. Solid walls. It comes about 6/8" above the top of the skirting.
A bit of googling shows a whole host of fluids and gels to inject, and also the dry rod system.

Has anyone done this sucessfully and has got a product to recommend?

drill and inject damp proof jelly and get a tanking slurry kit from wicks just knock the damp plaster off a foot higher than the damp. ive done a fair few and never had any come back plastered it back with hardwall undercoat plaster and multifinish topcoat thats what the sovereign guys use

Injected DPCs have one major disadvantage. They trap moisture at skirting board level.

Look up electro osmotic DPC. It is a live system which runs from a mains plug transformer. (Low voltage)

This suppresses the moisture down below floor level and is equally effective in all wall types including those which include any random rubble. (Whereas chemical injection would go up or down and not where intended another major drawback of it)

This needs the plaster chipping off too and sulphate resistant cement to patch back in prior to plaster.

Our favourite you toob builder will be along shortly sharing the same videos from some unknown damp conspiracy theroist that there is no such thing as damp and its all a rouse.

theres not much issues with shared party walls unless its a stepped party wall

this one is a stepped one with a join as you can see its got issues



the overlap of the roof pary wall join should stop any water getting down the wall unless its a step one where it drops as it goes down a hill like the above pic

is there any water pipes your side or even there side next door that could be leaking

Different house to the previous post, no stepped wall, no water pipes.

He says the damp is "just above the skirting board", so while the picture you show is not technically incorrect, I think it might be more useful to start at the other end.

Strange thing`s happen with rising damp. My house is at the bottom of a gently sloping park. The council dug a 2` wide strip at the bottom & filled with stone to deal with run off from the park. Prior to me moving in, my neighbour ( now passed ) showed me a photo of water cascading over the road, down the drive. The previous owners had drilled a hole in side of garage, to let the water flow onto his gravel drive. Yet somehow I have never had damp problems. Just recently they had builders in to inject something into the walls & plaster was removed upto about 3-4`. Potential buyers asked me about the damp problem & if I had any ( I do still get water sit against wall after a heavy downpour wich drains away fine ) & I replied that I didn`t & was surprised they had found damp as he had both a hedge/border all around the front of his garden & in front of his windows & it was previously meticuously maintained. mine is a mish mash of gravel/tarmac/concrete

Simplest especially for diy is dryzone paste ... high pressure injection is a pita and is risky on a party wall.

The Dryzone products do seem very popular, I did plenty of yoootoobing and lots of people/companies use it. I can't see which would be the most suitable product (performance-wise) between their rods and the injected paste.

may i ask what the floor is made up of

wood, stone, bitumen, ours is red bitumen

i presume ours is a stone floor coated with tar with a red coloured top

if a wood floor can you gain access to the area at all ?

A customer of ours did a lot of tanking jobs, think he used to take plaster off to 1 meter above floor.

We have a bit of damp between us and next door on party wall, 1950's Terrace house.

from the reference its the internal party wall, its unknown if its close to the outside wall or the internal part to the supporting wall

the join between your property and next doors main wall either poorly built thin wall or a thickish wall so sound dosnt come through

in pauls case its mentioned its a 9" solid brick wall for the party wall

newer builds the builders skimp on the party wall and has been reduced to a double brick wall when it should be a 3 brick party wall, whilst 4 brick party walls are better

I've used the dry rod system probably 5 years ago, so far so good....
