Introduction

Hello all. I've just joined after looking at the website many times and already learning much.
I'm a retired marine engineer and to keep me sane (ish) I'm rescuing an old motorcycle from a collection of parts.
Never had any welding training but I have arc welded various things over the years to effect repairs, and make tools. Terrible welding but it worked.
I've been looking at training courses, seems to me to be a good idea to get some training.
My first welding job is to build-up a missing gearbox lug, it's aluminium.
I'm looking to buy a mig welder.

Building up Ali lugs on gearbox casings and such is not the work for a MIG very much AC capable TIG territory. MIG can do ali with the right set and torch but generally buttoning up new clean plates etc. Things like gearbox lugs are not honestly on the cards for any MIG plant
