inverter/generator/plasma/compressor QUESTION .. ALL IN ONE

I have put this in one thread as they are all the same questions, hope no one minds

any problems with running a compressor from a inverter ?
if its alright would you recommend a full sine wave or a modified sine wave ??

also would a inverter with 2000w constant output run a 50ltr 2hp compressor ??

what about running one from a generator 2000kva ???

just looking at options for a mobile unit ,
i would prefer to use a inverter if possible ,, the other option is to connect a generator unit to the engine in my car ,,

what about running a plasma cutter 30a from a generator or a inverter ??

What will be the power source for the inverter?

Dont even think about running it from the vehicle bat & alternator.

I run a 2hp compressor from a 3000va inverter. The inverter can do peaks of much more so can start the motor easily. Most cheap inverters cant start motors very well. Mine costs about £1.8k. You will also need a substantial battery bank. For 1 hours worth of usage you will need 3 x 100ah 12v deep cycle bats as a minimum. After 50 x 1 hour sessions (IE use for 1 hour recharge for 12 via a mains charger) they will be stuffed. A forklift type bank would last much longer but will cost a lot & also add a lot of weight to the install.

As you also want to run other high consumption stuff to you need a genny.

the generator i was think of on the car ,, is a 240v 7kw unit linked to the engine through a clutch so that its only running when i need it ,, i can not have a high running engine revving at 3000 revs ,, so im hoping that the 1.6 lt in the car will run at a lower revs and i can gear the gen up so that the car is at around 1000 to 1500revs but the gen will be running at 3000

its not as simple as that you need a governor to keep the speed constant, the more you load the genny the slower it will get and the frequency drops which will damage some things you will also have to find out what horse power the engine delivers at those speeds as it may or may not produce enough also when you gear up you will lose power through the gearing

If he uses an inverter genny then the rpm does not have to match 50htz after the gearing for it to work. It will still need to produce the required amount of power at the set rpm though.

Boats are typically fitted with a similar system. The main one is called a "travel power" but I think they only come in 3.5 & 5 kw versions.

Bit curious as to what car has room under the bonnet for a genny? I had a light Datsun (Nissan) truck which I fitted a 3KVA unit to. Modern FWD cars have little space. Vis trying to change a cam belt on many. And a diesel would be OK to get the RPM set.
