iron powders overhead - am i the only one?

Who uses iron powders overhead here?

Id be surprised if theres any others. Ive only seen it once myself, and that was years and years ago.
Which rods are they?

I do it with 7024s with no worries, dont get on well with the rutile esab ones though.... Just need to be fast as hell! I cant imagine the mechanicals are great of the weld but do you think they would be massivly sub standard???

They wont be great whatever you do.

Did it once on some baffles in storage tanks years ago. To be honest the platers had done a cracking job and everything fitted nice and tight so we could just lay the rods in without any trouble but like you say ASME had to travel like the clappers

Yeh al single pass stuff, overhead fillets, dont think iv filled out any O/H butts but I reckon It could be done it would just be hard work and time consuming!
I only brought this up because at work I said can I just do this work witg iron powders and everyone made out I didnt have a clue what I was on about so I wondered who else does it :-)

I've used 7018 's on overhead fillets in single runs without any problems.
