Is glass ok for car panels?

Afternoon lads

As title really. We've got a couple tons of medium grade recycled glass at work and I need to blast a few panels on my project BMW 02. Will it be ok to use this? I'm worried about ruining the panels as they're fookin' expensive to replace

It depends on pressure as well as grit size. I've done panels on scooters but I'd bet they were thicker than car panels and they're so dented you wouldn't know if blasting damaged them anyway.

Personally I'd stay away from blasting expensive modern panels, it should be OK round the edges and where there are folds in the panel.

I once had an E-Type bonnet to do (guy paid £6000 for the bonnet & wings) but I got the paint off with a polydisc and just went over with a very light blast to get a uniform finish.

i wouldnt bother unless u want to ruin them. i dusted an excort bonnet over just with kiln dried sand at no great pressure. it let the stress out of the metal and the pannel buckled but your welcome to try it and take the chance .as said above u might get away with going round the edges

I use glass on car bodyshells,just stand well back on the panels though.Its good for removing the rubberised underbody coatings on chassis and floorpans too.

Air will be provided by a 2 tool compressor (100psi), but I must be able to leave the valve half closed to limit pressure somewhat?

You reduce pressure using the regulator not a valve

well,if theres no regulator on the comp,yeah crack the valve and let it vent 'till you get the suitable pressure,bit of a two man job maybe untill you get it right tweeking it.
