Is this cast iron or steel?

Thinking of buying this machine vice rotating base to fit a normal vice too. Anyway from looking at pictures to tell if it's cast iron or steel? Can't really ask seller to do a spark test. Ideally want to add to other mounting lugs or weld to a plate to make it more heavy duty

I'd bet my left nipple nut it is iron. Cast steel is expensive and the application doesn't demand it.

It's a machine vice base. I want to stick a 6" vice on it m I would want more than two mounts to make it abit more robust for heavy work. I've got materials for another method now

It's cast iron so won't take a pounding. Swinden's already tried that trick with an horrific looking bulky mounting bracket. I guess you could do that and weld to the "riser" which then bolts to the base but getting it to lock/unlock would be tricky.

No, it is a Record part that has been on the vice since I was a boy. It was always stiff to rotate and when I resited it I noticed one of the clamping lugs was broken.
