it gets hot !(but how hot)

have finally got my gas bottle wood burner up and running, quite impressed with the results ie it gets hot(very!) not too much smoke ,seems quite adjustable with the air vent, lights easily,logs seem to last a reasonable time, but can anyone tell me what output (kw i presume)it will put out, i realise it will vary depending on wood, air flow etc...can it be measured?..and if so how?..i put a thermometer at the base of the flue it can get to about 350f but is that good?..i dont know...!

Actually that link isn't much use as its a requirement for which burner for what size room etc.
That flue setup looks abit odd,what is it and is it sealed?

thanks for the link,lots of good info on that site..but dont seem to be able to find out how to measure stove output?as for the flue it was cobbled together and is not the finished article,(got it for nowt so will do for testing) looking for a nice steel one!

If the stove has been running for a while and is up to full temperature 350F / 176C seems about right at that position for a conventional wood burner (at least it's very similar 160C to our Clearview wood burner shut right down). According to the stove thermometer it's in the range where creosote isn't being produced so your flue won't be getting caked up. It would of course be more efficient if you increase wood burner temp to burn everything inside of the stove but lower the flue temp at the same time meaning more of the heat going into the room rather than straight up the chimney but that is near impossible with a conventional stove design without an extra heat exchanger. As for calculating output, I don't know - I'm sure there would be a way of estimating it but really it's a mute point - if the stove is doing it's job and keeping your workshop at a comfortable temperature it doesn't really matter how many KW it is actually giving out. If your workshop is small enough a direct comparison of the time needed to heat the space from the same ambient temperature to a comfortable working temp with a Superser or electric heaters with known outputs might give you a rough idea.

Hi there let me start buy saying what a great piece of work you've done. I'm going to try something like this myself but a little question before cutting the gas bottle how did you prep it ie make sure it was empty an What did you use to cut it as I don't want to be blowing to bits just yet lol

hi thanks for the comments, i started by opening the cylinder valve till it stopped hissing ,then laid cyl on ground and hit valve with hammer and drift till it moved(nornal right hand thread)then put water hose in it till full, you will smell gas off it for a while but if its full of water its safe, to cut i used an angle grinder with a 1mm thick metal cutting disc,these will cut without a pilot hole(be sure to wear goggles gloves and suitable clothing ,lots of sparks!)i used masking tape to guide my cuts,quite easy really good luck!
