Its about time...

Hello all.

Recently discovered this site and straight away i have to say i love it. Its exactly what ive been looking for as im about to purchase my very first welder.

Bit of background: While living in Australia i spent alot of time modifying small Japanese hatchbacks and turning them into little turbo race cars. Alot of fun. Im self taught and did almost all of the work myself, but my welding was done by a close friend who was very experienced.

Now im in Spain and the dilemma... cant seem to get away from cars hehe. I now have two small hatches and one ive started to work on.

So, i figured its about time i learnt how to make my own exhausts and intercooler piping.

Im looking to buy a welder in the next few weeks so im on here reading to make sure i get the right one for the job. ie, something that can weld mild steel for the exhausts, thick steam pipe for the extractors and aluminium for the intercooler piping.

Look forward to getting my hands dirty again and any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all.

Have any fun with some mazda 323 turbos while you was out there? as i know they are quite common down under, ive had one for 5 years and not seen another one on the road over here.

Welcome to the site, lots of info and help here, i only joined last week with the same sort of intentions of you, well mainly to sort my sills out but then thought about fitting a front mount ic and sorting out my back box. First things first tho, learning to weld.

haha, nah i never played with one of those. But i beleive i was the 2nd person in the country to do a full turbo engine conversion using a GTiR engine in a Nissan pulsar SSS back around 2002 (i think they are called Almera GTi in the UK). At the time thought i was the first, we later found eveidence of someone doing one a few years earlier but no one ever knew about it.

Since then i think i built over 40 of them for customers all around Oz. Also played with a few wrxs, civics, integras, skylines and my favourite - a Holden Rodeo utility that we dropped an SR20DET into with a T67 turbo. It was insane.

Now ive got my self a GTiR that i picked up in Leeds and drove back to Barcelona. This will be a track car for some fun on weekends at the local circuits. I also bought a 1998 GTi to drop my race engine into. This will be a drag car that i want to ship back to UK for some events ive been reading about. Looks like the English love drag racing as much as the ausies do

Bet that was a fun drive from england to spain.

A mate of mine had a pulser and it was a right pain, clutch went, we done that then about 2 months later the head gasket went, he was forever having problems with it, mainly electrics. Nice quick cars tho, i like them. I see you know your cars, i like my little hot hatches, even know with the kids ive got i could do with something bigger, cant bear to part with my motor tho.
