I have done a few runs on my arc before but I needed practice and an engine stand to do a full rebuild so old bed frame and hacksaw it was starting the arc was a bit hit and miss but I assume thats just practice once I was going it looked good I could see the puddle but on chipping the slag off which looked even across the joint I had very little in the way off a bead even though I had burnt through the steel in places so did a flat bead again slag looked good but once off little on the surface. The rods I'm using are old posdibly 80s I've mmanaged to stick it all together but its far from pretty the rods came in their paper wrapper in a plastic tool box but I have no idea how they have been stored in the past. Is it just me being a crap stick welder or could the rods be affecting it?
