J&S 540 value.

Looking at a j&s 540, same chap I bought my lathe and mill from.

All appears to work ok...metric, coolant system, dust extraction...not got power to the z axis but that's no Biggie.

A few wheels and a diamond dresser is about all it comes with.

Came from a college in the 80s, he's the second owner and hardly used it, sat covered up for the last 20 odd years. Suspect it's in good nick on its ways.

He told me to give him a fair price and I can take it away when I'm ready.

Prices appear to be all over the place on these things....what is a fair price?

Have a look at the ways. It's actually the saddle ways that wear. What would that be. The Z axis? In-line with the spindle.

Check the hydraulics are working and that oil is making it to the ways.

Just read through your thread, What's the best way to inspect on site?

Check the hydraulics are working and that oil is making it to the ways.

Hyds seem to be working fine, had the table moving under power, is it the same system that lubes the ways? It's been sitting so long some blocked lube ports wouldn't be surprising.
