Anyone got one of these? I like the idea of the side windows but they are only strength 5.

Do you think this would cause a bit of strain on the eyes?

Maybe better to go with the non sided one.

Need one that is good for MIG ARC and eventually TIG, after using the same passive for nearly 20 years i am looking forward to a nice helmet.

I've had two Jackson helmets and both have been terrible. The BOC helmet is a re-branded Optrel Satellite, which is a great screen. I had my last one for about 5 years before it packed in recently.

What was wrong with the Jacksons Craig?

The first one i had was terrible when using tig, it used to fail quite a lot, especially with anything positional. The second one i never used with tig but i packed in after about 12-18 months. I'm sure the new ones must be better as they seem really popular in the states.

I don't know what your budget is but I'm currently using a Miller Elite and its very,very good.

I have found the Optrel e680 which is 5-13 and appears to be the equivalent of the BOC one for 40 quid less.

You can't go wrong with Optrel, they make quality gear.

I have been using the 5-13 optrel from boc for a couple of years with no problems.

Have a lookout for the ESAB Eyetech II too (same lens as the Optrel).

A 5-13 helmet is a huge jump from a fixed shade. For MIG, TIG or arc you would be unlikely to stray from shades 9 to 12. The shade 5 is for micro plasma welding or similar.

Certainly the esab is available in 9-13, and there are other TIG helmets for less that ought to be fine.

I have been using a Speedglass......had it 7 years and all I have had to do is change the batteries.........obviously you change the lenses.

I've used several auto helmets over the years and never really come to terms with any of them, last one was an Esab Eyetech. Spares for lots of them, including simple things like clear plastics can be an issue, as many of them use helmet specific sizes. A couple of years ago I switched back to a passive screen, shade 9 for most work and maybe down to 8 for low current tig, spare shades are pennies, clear plastics cheap as chips off the shelf at any supplier and a new helmet when required for 20 quid. There's no doubt that there are some good auto helmets around, but the vast majority are crap.

So i could get away with this e650 for TIG then? Havent got a TIG machine yet but dont want to be forking out for another lid when the time comes.

This is a 9-13 shade and costs even less than the e680 which is obviously a good thing.
