JMR/Pro-tools tube bender and dies

Hi all..
wasn't sure where to put this, but when I searched for bender and dies it ended up on this part of the forum so thought putting it here.

I have purchased a 2nd hand JMR manual tube bender, very similar to the JD square and Pro-tools one.
Now my dillema.... it comes with the die for 7/8s tube, but I need to bend 1" tube.

so.. does anyone have a 1" die that they want to sell? or swap with mine?

or... do you guys think the 7/8s die could be machined to accept 1" tube?
the dies are interchangeable between JMR and Pro-tools, but not with JD square

I would imagine that it's possible to tweak the one you have out to 1 on as it's only a 16th each side you are pinching

But it depends how quick you need one as I have been looking into making dies for the JD squared bender.

Well.. I dont need it in a hurry, I'm picking the bender next week and I can start playing with 7/8 tube for now.
The thing is the dies used on the JMR and pro tools are interchangeable with eachother but not with the JD square.

from what I was explained today though, the 1" die used on the JD square can be modified to be used on the JMR, I didnt get it completely as it was a phone conversation, but something to do where the pins are located. to use a JD on a JMR, one of the holes has to be plug welded and then re drilled on the right position.

I wouldn't bother trying to machine a 7/8 to suit 1", firstly it will most likely be hardened and they have a special profile. The whole point of having one of these benders to do a proper job and I think messing with the dies is a mistake.Sadly if you want to do a couple of bends then the dies are expensive but there is quite a bit of work in them.

I've been looking a getting a JD32, I spoke to Stakesy's and they said get the bender but only get a die when you have a job to do and offset against the job. When you get into the bigger sizes they are big money.

I would say there is market for hiring dies but I think the only way it would work is if pay a deposit equal to a replacement die.

I think the number of dies for JD32 are in the 100s

So.. ended up not machining the die.
got a JMR 1" die from the US, lucky that a mate was putting a big order in with another company so I got the die sent to this company and they stuck it in between my mate order.

should get it here next week! can't wait to start bending stuff!

Those are the kind of mates you need , in my experience many USA companies are happy to help doing things like that. Obviously the bigger ones that have multinational agreements aren't quite so helpful.

I think you've done the right thing buying a new die.
