John Guest fittings

Mornin' all!

Having found all the info. I can about running fixed air pipe around my workshop walls, I've decided to go for John Guest 22mm. rigid nylon pipe. Now, some of the recommended layouts I've looked at show vertical pipes from the underneath of the main line with ball valves at the bottom to drain off water.
My problem is, I can buy the John Guest piping and couplings (straight connectors, equal Tee connectors, elbows etc.) for this piping from Toolstation, but nowhere (including John Guest!) shows ball valves or water traps for this pipework!
Also, in view of the larger size of air pipe, would it be an advantage to connect directly to the end of the Compressor tank rather than to the small PCL coupling on top of the tank?
Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated!

Just in case you're not aware (forgive me if I'm patronising!) -

You can use standard compression fittings with pex pipe. Just make sure you use an insert, eg jg superseal (I think they're called that anyhow)

So use standard ball valves, and, if you want some other fitting, just go to brass and adapt that way.

JG speedfit will fit copper pipe of the same size as well as plastic so put a normal compression fit ball valves on a short lengths of copper first then join it into the plastic system with a speedfit connector.

Yes, it'll give an increased flow of air as it'll be less restrictive.

you can get 1/2BSP-15MM compression fittings...thats what i used when i hard plumbed my air lines up with copper

I actually remembered to grab some photos when I was down at the workshop earlier. Sorry the photos aren't better, just used my phone.

Here's how I did the compressor connection. I used a malleable union at each end so that I could easily disconnect it if I need to.

When I wired up my workshop, I added a run of cable tray. To save drilling any more holes in the walls, I just clipped my air main to the bottom of the cable tray. I use the 22mm water trap tees.

These then drop down to one of the plastic porting blocks containing a PCL connector or two.

Followed by a drain valve at the bottom.

Good luck with your installation! I plumbed this in about 12 months ago and I've been very happy with it. Not had any condensation problems either, not even when plasma cutting.

Hi Dan,

That's brilliant! 'photos are fine especially from a 'phone.
It's mainly for Plasma cutting that I'm setting it up, and seeing it all in place makes it much easier for me to list from the pictures all the bits I need!
