hi, been lurking and using a lot of info on this gold mine :-) ,it's been a great help in deciding what tig welder to buy, i really needed a excuse to buy one as they are very expensive, but very handy for all types of mischief ;-)
i bought a r tec ac/dc digital 210 amp welder, yes i must confess i cannot afford it LOL!! but it seemed a no brainer with the reviews on this site. i intend to to do a welding course this year and learn a little more on how to use it. youtube is a god send!! it seems daft but little things on what hand to hold the torch in etc have been answered. i feel i need to leave the pulse/pulse width/frequency alone until i get some "muscle memory" on what i am doing. i have used the advice on this site on my 180 amp mig, this does not have a euro torch etc, but has done plenty of mischief in the past (type my user name into youtube) i have just fitted a good earth clamp to it, as well as a 16 amp plug, this has had the effect of making it into a much bigger machine than it ever was. i have had to turn the power right down as it has "grown" in amperage after the small mods. this tig welding is not as hard as in the video's .........it's a lot harder !!! no reason not to do as well as these gods, just time and practise!! i paint cars for a living, even after 20 years+ i still think i am learning a new job every week ;-(. i look forward to making some welds that look like jewels :-) regards jon
