Jotamastic 80 or 87 for my project car?

Morning all

I'm looking for a brushable epoxy coat for the underside, arches, floorpans etc. basically all areas you cannot see, and I've found this gear but what one will suit me? Would it be ok as the only coat on the underside? If it needs another coat of something else, I'll do that.

i believe the 80/87 refers to the solids content so 87 would be the better choice

and yes its ideal for what you need , no need to overcoat unless you want to

get yourself some gloves though , its sticky stuff

yeah i am

if you plan to use this jota at other times , maybe consider the winter hardner so you can use it in colder temps , and it will dry faster in the summer

What sort of drying times will the standard and winter hardeners have in weathers like we're experiencing?

there you go wg is the winter hardner ...summer hardner wont dry under 10 degs , so possibly a bit dicey overnight or if you plan to use it outside of summer

i used jotun epoxymastic 87 with winter hardener on my project car and would use it again.

took a fair while to 'dry' hard - i was scared for at least a week or 3 as it still felt soft but when it went off completely it was as hard as nails and stuck like poo to a blanket

i brushed it on too - don't forget the proper thinners when you go shopping

There's a place in Thurrock that sell it at just under 50 quid. At 4.7 litres, how much did you need Mel?

And how much thinners to brush on mate?

i brush it on with no thinners , no point thinning as it goes on smooth ish

wheres the place in thurrock ...50 ish is about right , ive always got mine on ebay

It's Paints4Trade in west Thurrock. They sell it on eBay too so you've most likely heard of them Steve.

I'll pick some up or order it when I can. Hoping to get down to the car this weekend so should have something to post up on my project thread. Not much but something at least.

one tip for you ..when doing small bits n bobs get a packet of disposable cups and a pack of spoons from the pound shop , carefully spoon a bit into the cups to try and save the mess as any spills down the side of the can stay sticky

if you decide to top coat it , do it while its not fully cured that way the top coat will stick to it

i used most of a 5ish litre can to brush paint the underside of a sunbeam (fiesta size) with two very thick coats and also to spray the engine bay - i probably had 1/2 - 3/4 litres left

i used between 10 and 20% thinners to get to a consistency that i liked and bought it via ebay from a ships chandlers the name of which escapes me!

only mix as much as you can use in an hour or so as it goes off via a chemical reaction like araldite epoxy glue

i used paint mixing cups to mix it in as it will set and ruin anything its in.

it also melts disposable plastic coffee type cups (and leaves a horrible mess where it was left)
