My compressors were behind the garage out of ear shot. But recently a neighbour said that some houses can hear them as they are in line of sight of them. So built a sound enclosure:
The enclosure uses two sound mufflers, one on each side, one for air in, other for air out.
Forced air to keep the pumps cool:
I rubber mounted the pump and motors to stop sound going down the pump+motor stand.
Sound insulation is a layer of Wickes low density sound insulating rockwool and convoluted foam.
I used steam hose to create a flexible connection from pump to enclosure (photo missing). Then copper.
The compressor valves are on the side as I've got two pumps so need them to merge before going to the air tank.
So that's it. The noise is about one third now, you can talk over them. But one thing I think I'm seeing is that the sound insulation and mufflers have outdone themselves, they are pointlessly working too well because the noise that is escaping seems to be getting out thru the pipes. If I was to do this again I'd use less insulation and only one bend in the mufflers to simplify the enclosure.
