Hi.

Thought it was time to join. Been following the forum for about a year
while learning to mig weld on my MGB GT which Ive owned for about 9 years.

So far I have practiced on the nose of the wing (my best work yet), rear quarter, Back end above the valance, fabricated and rebuilt the pointy bits under the rear lights.

I'm now about to change the sills. The parts are ordered.
Once I get back from holiday I plan to brace up the door openings and the inside and get cracking on the passenger side, which is in reasonable condition.

The drivers side needs outer sill, membrane and floor pan doing.
front and rear valance to replace. work on the doors and tailgate


Great forum which has taught me loads already. Well ive stopped blowing holes in everything.
I will post a picture or two of my work for you to have a look at.

Hi Chris and welcome, look forward to the photo's, still got fond memories of my MGB GT, even with the 2" of water in the footwell, the smoking exhaust and gearbox with a funny noise I never did discover the cause of.

Hi there, welcome

Best way to learn to weld on cars is to do it on cars.

A couple of bits of sheet steel don't quite match welding upside down as the sparks fly up you nose.


You could post you progress in the projects section.

I'm doing a Capri 2.0 its the special edition "Iron Oxide", and putting a 1.5td Vauxhall/Isuzu TD into a Austin A40 Farina.

i'll get around to pics at some stage, but i'm better with cars than cameras....thnakfully

Steve you mentioned a noise.

On the Capri my girlfriend of the time, now wife, once turned up saying the car was making the most evil of noises from underneath, and she had driven several miles since it started. She went on to say that she was pulling away from some temporary traffic lights when it started.

I had a quick peep underneath expecting the exhaust to have come off, but no.

Under the car was one of those red signs saying"when red light shows wait here".

For some reason now, i tend to do the driving when were out together

I decide to teach a girlfriend ( fast became an ex girlfriend) how to drive in my Triumph Spitfire, which I must admit was a bit rough ( the Spitfire), she managed 20 yards and buried the snout under a milk board wagon, she blamed him..said 'he never comes at this time on a Thursday!'

My wife was queuing at the South of England show a few years back, when they used a Policeman to create a traffic jam, not the contraflow thing they have now.

The Policeman held his hand up to stop her, which she did.

He then waved his hand for her to proceed, but she got out of the car and walked up to him to see what he wanted.

I was in the back of the 2 door car, and didn't stop laughing until lunch, even the Policeman thought it was funny.

Even she admits she is a natural blonde for a reason

Is she smiling at you or laughing at the restro job.. you are lucky she gets involved, mine thinks the workshop is the devils place...or maybe thats good...need to think about that.

I will take some pics and post them in projects after my holidays.
Got to pic up my new Argon cylinder from Smethwick and call in at an Mg shop on the way back from Norfolk.

Hopefully the sill stuff will have arrived by then as well. Should be like christmas
