Hi everyone
just thought i would say hello to you all and also pick your brains at the same time. i am thinking of getting a new welder , it will mainly be used for repairing my landrover discover and fixing the gates etc.Can you please advise which type to get mig, tig , etc. i have not welded now for some years but find my self in a position were i have the time on a weekend now to carry out minor repairs.

Hi Mark, welcome to the forum from another green oval fan!
Mig would be your best option, have a look at Weldequip shop (top of page) and contact steve for unbiased advice.

thank you Robotstar5 for getting back to me.I have a chance of buying a new gasless mig at a reasonanle price, i have been told these are better to use outsde when the weather is breezy, down side is the coating in the wire which does the same job as the gas can hinder the view of the welds,you have to clean the new weld up before you can weld over it, also with you repairing LR can you advise on a rear inner wheel arch hole, again been advised to rivet some ally plate then glass over it, what do you think to that approach.

hi Madkayaker do you recommend a standard mig with gas if so can you use gasless wire with it?

the polarity is reversed to run gasless as posed to gas. so if the machine is capable yes! use wind breaks if possible (bit of card and gaffa tape is enougth) gasless can be used on thicker stuff but is harder to clean up afterwards as it spits and splatters all over the place

Also check that is has a low enough setting for this stuff 30A is about as high as you want and many cheep sets start about 45A
