Keep calm I've just bought a welder!

Hey folk. I have just bought myself a Clark mig102ng gasless welder. £109.98 with my no vat deal at machine mart.

Was about to buy a SIP 135amp gas welder for £45 (used).
Thought it was a deal until I looked on here last night.

My welding will be on cars so power wise I should be ok.

Anyone have experience on this model?

I don't have any welding to do at the moment but I'll be trying it out on some 2mm sheet I have in the garage to get a feel for my new purchase.

but gasless is not good for car work you would be better of with a gas/nogas one.
gasless runs hotter than gas people find it ok for outdoor work on heavy stuff
remember car panels are now down to 0.6mm in places or 0.8mm
my opinion would be to take it back and swap it while you can clarke 150en seems to be good as you will find out you always need a little bit more power than you think

Welcome to the forum and afraid to say it but that is not a machine I would have advised you to buy, not having a gas option I think you will simply become frustrated and annoyed by gasless welding.

Have you unpacked it?

indeed welcome.

and yes maybe a gas/no gas one if you plan on doing any welding outside.

or a plan gas one like many of us have.

I know it's not great to hear what's been said but it would be false for us all to say well done we are sure it will serve you well.

You really do need the option of gas/no gas, that set restricts you too much for car work... BUT if you keep it then I hope you prove us all wrong and it does what you ask of it.

When I did my C&G Motor Vehicles course (a loooooong time ago ) one of the other lads bought a gas/gasless MIG set but couldn't get a decent weld out of it.
So he took it into college and went to see the welding instructors... and not one of them could get a decent weld out of it either.

Well I have just run the quickest seem on some dirty 3mm plate and it looks ok to me. I'll join two plates together tomorow and try and post a pic or two

I'm keeping it as I want to be the worlds first expert on gasless lol

the 130 or the 150 would have been a much better range to choose from even if gasless

i have both gas and gasless clarke and sip both have there uses and i have used gasless with the sip comes in handy sometimes

the 150s have a much better welding range to weld pieces with and personally i wouldnt advise going any lower not for the price of them
