Kelly Kettle anyone made one?

I really would love one of these however they are like 30 - 60 quid on ebay. How easy would they be to make? I guess a TIG would be the way to go?

you can make them from copper so they could be soldered and as long as they have water in them the solder wont melt forgot to mention lead free solder only or silver solder even brass if you have it

I was only thinking of making one the other day. I go with my other odd thousand inventions/projects I seem to have constantly on the go

Interesting idea with the solder. As long as the thing didn't boil dry should work well. Will give it some thought. I think the best plan would be to get a pipe which would act as the chimney. Then cut a pipe in half and solder/weld this to the chimney pipe like this - (()
There should be enough space to boil the water.

i think you will find that the water jacket is as picture below all the way round for maximum heat transfer

Ive got a 2 litre kelly kettle , brilliant peice of kit it is too.

The top and bottom joins are rolled over and pressed with the look of it (from what i remember).
The 2 handle brackets and the cork/chain bracket are fixed with pop rivets.

Ive been using it a couple of years now and its never leaked yet.

ive often thought it would be pretty easy to make if you had access to ali tig.

how long does it take to boil when full and what fuel do you use

about 5 mins, you use anything you can get hold of, dry grass, sticks, etc

I use a sheet of newspaper screwed into a ball and a handfull of sticks,chopped up from old pallets. only needs a handfull for a boil.

Once its goin it draws up quickly roars away, boiling in a few mins.

Also know as the Volcano kettle

Edited to add - They can chuck out alot of smoke, not the kind of thing to try indoors

got a kelly kettle for when i go green laning ,best bit of kit ever bought

never made a kelly ketlle, but I have made a couple of rocket stoves, these are also good for heating water.
