Keying/Sanding paint in hard to get areas

Hi guys, I'm currently sanding down some wheels to respray in a different colour.

There is nothing wrong with the paint no corrosion and pitting so I'm just trying to key the paint and up until now I've just been hand sanding them.

But I've now got to some tight corners in-between the spokes and its very difficult to get to and to get the shine off the paint, so I'm trying to find out what methods or tools there are to make this process a lot quicker?

3m scotch pads ...red or grey

Bit fiddly but as Steveo say and stick a bit of it to a 5mm dowel/drill bit then wrap it round a couple turns and stick again. Slam it in your drill.

3rd for the scotchbrites, as Nick says wrap a bit around a stick or split shaft for real tight corners

ok thanks for the help guys, ill get some ordered. Just out of curiosity how effective is bead blasting? Is it too harsh on alloy and is it any quicker?

Just wondering as I have a few sets of wheels to do and I'm looking for the fastest way to prep them

Media blasting will remove it back to bare ally but not the best surface for paint

bead blasting is no use at all it piens the surface . fine sandblasting on ally is the best for giving a good key for painting leaving a fine matt finish . ideal for coating with an etch primer 1st . note the diffrence between sand blasting and bead blasting . using the correct sand of course sand has sharp cutting edges beads are glass round spheres
