Hi everyone, hope you are doing well.
Don't know if you remember the thread opened almost a year ago.
Anyway I'm having some issues with my Swedish style axe project.
Because of time and tbh laziness , I've stopped working on it .
I have to grind a lot of material to get it thinner, lighter and as much importantly symmetrical to the eye because of lack of quality of the base axe I've used for the project.
Many years ago I've seen an homemade lathe build video.
To make flat parts and to remove lots of material the creator used a contraption which essentially is a surface grinder.
Made with a drill press cross table vise , and an angle grinder mounted on a support, with screw high adjust.
It seems to work fine for what I need to do.
Now the question is not about precision because I'm aware ball bearings are not enough.
But how would you build something like that?
Because it's wasteful build a "machine" for just one job.
I've thought I might use a 200mm bench grinder,or a 230mm angle grinder as power head, improvise a bed , with accurate enough guides to do the job.
Then maybe later upgrade it using the"machine" itself to grind the table and it's guides to make a kind of surface grinder for small stuff maybe 300x150 work area .
I'm curious to know what would be your approach to accomplish this goal
