Klopp Shaper

So, I bought the Shaper that was down in Solihul well Shirley really. A ride out nonetheless. I set off at 6.30 am the other day for a two and a half hour drive, four hours later, after negotiating the M6 I arrived at my destination. I really did not need to be reminded why I hate driving nowadays. Coming back was the same nonsense, three and a half hours that one - but I was being extremely cautious, we were on the bump stops!

This is a pre-war lump and I mean LUMP. Easily over half a ton. When I arrived the chap who was selling it had to go to work so I was on my own in the driveway with this:

Half an hour and it was starting to come apart:

I was lucky, when I reversed the van up I was able to slide the "Lumpy Bit" onto the sheet of ply I had brought. The two parts that made up the base were not moving though so I made steps from stuff that was lying around and "walked" the bits one at a time up and then toppled them into the van.

I have bought the thing to do a specific job but first, it's restoration time :-) We do like a restoration.

Possibly, but I would have gone totally grey waiting for it to arrive in one piece. I do think all the small shapers follow pretty much the same design. I mean, it's a shaper, pretty basic machine tool.
Pedestal is already blasted and the box is next. I have plenty of paint so off to choose which colour this is going to be. :-)

lack of space and too many current projects made me see reason but was a bargain.

mine . was how do i get it to where i live

then get the ear chewing for where you going to fit it not enough room in shed

other projects to finish off then get sorted out at last

I have this very problem. In fact, one of my friends said: he doesn't actually "go into" his shed, more like puts it on, like a coat! However, I have a plan. More later.

I don't know why people are so worried about pallet shipping. Not everything is suitable of course but that shaper would have been ideal providing it was bolted to a sturdy full size pallet.
If the seller is reluctant I usually offer them some extra cash to prepare it properly. Then ask for photos to prove it is secure.
Perhaps I have just been lucky but all my ebay bargains have arrived safely. I rhink 95% of problems are caused by packing. Sometimes struggling getting things into vans or estate cars can be just as risky.
