L S Lowrie Project

I have been asked by St John The Fisher School Widnes to make an installation of sculptures inspired by local boy L S Lowrie.
Cant believe I have not thought of this before. I have made a few stick men and like him I am not a 'proper artist'. (so some would say).
I agreed to do it and suggested that the school children do the design work and make the figures contemporary.
They came to visit my workshop. I explained my no spectator policy and all of them did some welding.

I was then sent the concept drawings and left to get on with it. The local Rugby team are the vikings.

I was chuffed to bits to be directed to make a skateboarder. I was a skate Ninja in the 70's.

Looking great, only another ten to make.#I have made them as kits so it should be a quick finish.

L.s. lowry, now there is a modern artist who's work i do like, plenty of ordinary people going about their business and industrial scenes. Nice work chunkolini.

Funny how sometimes we don't think of the obvious and it takes someone else to point it out!
Lowrie, you and millions of others not proper artists. Well we are back to the thorny question of what is art? Well for me it's like beauty, it's in the eye of the beholder.

The definition of art I go with is it's something that provokes an emotional response...in the the Emin bed case it's more of a physical response....
I love what you did with these kids Chunk great work, at that age it will really inspire them. I have done public art projects where school kids have been the driving force behind the design and I'm always impressed by their capability and sometimes real genius!
The playstation generation, there's hope yet!!

There is a lovely book on Lowry in the book shop in town, its not cheap but i have been promising myself it for years. I'll get around to buying it sometime i have spare cash. I don't entirely agree with art just being something that provokes an emotional response, it should be that of course, but skill should be a part of it too. The usual notion we have of modern artists being someone who stands in front of a 10 foot square canvas chucking paint at it , to me isn't art, i feel the same about tracey emins bed, it just pretentious nonsense.

Very nice Chunkolini, like those a lot. We went to the Tate last year and saw the Lowry exhibition, I did not know what to expect and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Saint should be singing "I'm a little teapot here's my spout".

I have had my mates singing that at me for a while and will have 200 kids singing it to me when I deliver them.
And it is a terrible brain worm.

The song routine comes when I visit the school again.
Dreading it, children singing always me go all gooey for want of a better word.
They are going to be galvanized.
My first visit to the school was terrrorfying. I was escorted into the main hall and they all trooped in and the reception ones were tiny.
I wanted to run away screaming but the head had me under control and got me to relax and talk to 200 kids and I did not get into trouble.
I was impressed by the whole malarkey.
