l200 lighter socket no worky

Hi, got a old 07 l200 pram, bought one of those demister fans this winter ,plugged into lighter socket ,it worked for 3 seconds then stopped..so tried it in brothers rav 4 worked fine .
So checked all fuses under bonnet and under dash , all ok , so where do I go from there, the second lighter on the armrest is now fuba so I need to fix this as cant use my sat nav ! any knowledge on this problem? cheers in advance

Have you tried something else in the same socket?

Just to rule it out?

Possible your fan has bent the connections in the socket. Some of the plugs on the cheap stuff is a bit out of tolerance.

Test the inner of the socket with a meter. It’ll take you 10 seconds to work out if it’s knackered or not.

You may get away with bending the contacts back if that’s all that’s happened.

If it’s no good, test the connector at the back.

If there’s voltage there but not inside the socket then it’s new socket time

thanks, yes tested socket with light, dead , so its dash apart time I think..

You can push the tabs in and fish them out forwards.

Gaz tube it. As there’s a few types.

Snap on do a special tab pushing tool. I kid you not!

thanks , I tried to do that ..so far just completly cobled the lighter socket ...tricky little suckers ,well to me at the moment , snap on,ha I believe it , £4.95 for 20 weeks no doubt

Fuse number 2 in the fuse box is the cigarette lighter fuse. 15A, I believe. Accessory socket is supplied by fuse number 6, again 15A. This is for 2005-2015 models.

Yeah they’re a pain in the hoop. I normally give it a go then end up busting them out and putting an aftermarket one in.

Hindsight is 20/20 and all that but you may be able to get your hand up and pull the plug off the back and pull it out enough to get a test meter to the terminals

If you’re replacing it, is a USB a better bet? I don’t even have the sockets in my truck now. Everything is a USB cable
