Land Rover Discovery 1 - Advice req please

Hi all

Can somebody advise what the best method of fixing this hole in the chassis of my Disco 1 would be please? It must be a common place for them to go cos my Rangie Classic had been welded in exact same spot.

wheel and shock off, mount on axle stands and you should be able to get a small grinder, or something in there to remove some rust then weld a patch over, some rust proofer inside wouldn't hurt either if its where I think it is

Hi - thanks for response. I think that's going to be the hardest part - getting access. I can't think of a good way of doing it. All the tools I have will be too big to get in there! It's the rear near side of the truck btw

Just have to slacken 12 bolts, pair in each location

Bottom of bulkhead

Front outrigger

Centre mounts

Rear outrigger

Rear body member

During which you find more rust !
I've receently finished welding up my disco, started at one sill and went round whole car!

you don't need to undo all 12 mounting back 4 or 6 will do or you go the other way and cut out some of the boot floor to do it
is the boot floor rotten most are unless it's been replaced

I saw a lovely disco in the local Tesco carpark yesterday. massive tyres, huge suspension lift, stainless snorkel and exhaust. had a closer look and his is rusty in the same place as yours, and many other places. he said it is like chasing your tail trying to keep rust off a landy.

Nice job, I almost did the same with my ancient LWB Nissan Patrol before somebody offered to buy it from me.

How about using the end of a power file to get the metal clean before weldijg the patch on?

You might find its a lot worse than that wee hole, I had the same on both sides, accessed from above, boot floor was removed for replacement. What I found was the top of the chassis was rotten as well.
