Largest welding rods?

I vaguely rememeber (i think) someone on here talking about 8mm rods a while ago just had a search about on google and the largest rods i could find were 6mm (i think my little powercraft buzz-box would crap itself at the sight of these). Just out of interest, whats the largest rods you can get/have been able to get? And what is the largest that would be commonly used?

The largest I've got is 4mm, bought them cos I thought they'd be handy and have only ever used a couple just to try them.

I expect when you start using rods over 8mm, you'd need to buy one of those special welders made in the philipines.

8mm is the biggest iv burnt, not common tho, and I think thats as big as you go, common big rods are 5mm, I burn boxes of them, really good capping rods at around 220+ amps.......

Sorry to jump this thread but what gauge steel requires 8mm rods?

1" upwards and caps only really, 5mm are the same, although I have been know to chew the odd root in with a 5mm, Ok on large J preps where you might put a dozzen or so passes in.....

You can get a flood welding electrode for repairing dies, metrode used to make them they go up to 19mm

Metrode made some seriously big gougeing rods aswel.....
