This week I had two ladies, Carol and her Daughter Danny come over for a couple of days to have a go at metal sculpture and make a sculpture for the pond at the primary school that Carol works at. The sculpture was designed by one of the pupils in a competition. he wanted a half fish half fish boy standing by the pond on his tail. As work progressed Carol sent the young lad a picture on her phone of fishboy on his side which he preferred.
Neither of them had ever seen a welder before so they were both as nervous as hell.
We spent the first morning getting used to using the Mig welder and get over being intimidated by it.
By the end of the second day they had made FishBoy.
I did a tiny portion of the work, a couple of the more awkward to reach welds and the first few tacks holding it together. The rest of the welding, plasma cutting and metal bending was done by the ladies. I was guiding and advising but it was their project.
When Fishboy was finished Danny made the reclining figure in the foreground.
