Lathe chuck storage?!

Hi folks,

Having finally sorted my 4 jaw and collet chuck for my Triumph lathe, I'm left with (including the face plates) 5 VERY big bits of iron laying about the lathe area.

Have any of you got/made/seen any inventive space saving chuck rack/storage ideas? I'd thought maybe a steel upright (100mm box or something, bear in mind the smallest chuck is still 8" across the thread nearly!) with a stub coming out to sit them on with some kind of rubber over it to protect the taper.

Like a tall rack that could fit down the side of the lathe, big face plate (21" or something diameter I think?) at the bottom and collet chuck at the top with the 3 jaw at a sensible height as I'll use that most I think.

Any help or advice much appreciated.

Tbh the bloody weight of the 4 jaw I'd been tempted to rig up a skyhook over the lathe!

I think most things in my workshop are mobile, just makes everything easier, cleaning, rearranging machines etc.

My lathes have storage inside the cabinet, and relatively small chucks but I'm still tempted to make a little swing hoist to make lifting them out and on to the spindle easier.
With a bigger lathe I’d do it for sure!

Yeah there's a small cabinet and a drawer of sorts but both way too low to be pulling 40kg of chuck out of. Also full of steadies and other bits iirc!

I made a plywood rack above the backsplash. Folks had concerns about it being strong enough but I wasn't worried and it holds up to 8 chucks no problem.

I've since drilled extra holes in the front edge to hold chuck keays and morse taper tools. It's very handy having everything right in front of you in space that would otherwise be wasted.

Mate has Henderson track with trolleys a hanging down arm with a right angle stub the arm is on a hinge and track goes past the lathe so you can line up 3/4 trolleys with chucks face plate attached etc.
Roll the empty arm to the chuck tighten on stub , release chuck from machine roll to the parking bay, roll the next one to fit into place.
The hinge allows you to push,pull item out of way of machine bits there is a thread on arm to allow for fine height & alignment adjustment
We thought up this idea 4 years ago when he was making a model traction engine and chucks and face plate was a regular change (and we are old) works well.
And our chucks were lighter than yours @dan.taylor.1
@Pete. Would not relish lifting 40 Kg reaching forward over machine, had one hernia not trying for second.
I have a lot mounted above splash back as well

my new chucks are about 45kg each i'll definitely be getting a crane or something overhead
