Lathe identification

Hi, is anyone able to identify this lathe, it's on ebay and advertised as 1880's having a chuck that needs machining to fit and the tail stock is missing, so would like to know what it is to see if i can find parts before i bid on it.
I've been after a small cheap lathe for a while and this would be ideal for my needs if i can find some info on it.

Personally, I'd say that unless they're practically giving that away, keep looking, and I'm not one who generally minds a challenge.

its a crock of ....xxx dont even bother if its for next to nowt . u have as much chance of getting a tailstock for that as seeing the man on the moon

If you just want it to play with it does have a fixed steady and if you are local the price it is at now is peanuts. ..

it's round the corner from where i work and the start price is £5 with 3 days left and no bidders. i just want it for small jobs like making bushes and turning down small shafts so could get away without the tail stock for most things.

how do u propose to make -bushes without drilling them out 1st before u- use a boring tool

Making a bushing without a tailstock would not be a lot of fun!

agreed not the easiest thing to do but pre drilled on the pillar drill would work and i like challenges

That was my point. As a toy it might be fun...you could even make a tail stock or one fit for playing with. I have seen a guy use the tool post to drill with.

You can get tool holders with morse tapers.

Thanks for that info ronan i can see similarities to the atlas lathes. It would be purely for messing about with on my diy projects so i'm not looking for anything fantastic.

If you could get it at that price or very close, you'd definitely have your money in the bits. You could always use pieces off it for something else at worst.

Well the auction ended and i didn't get it, it went for £43 i was winning at 42 but got sniped at the last second. it's probably a good thing i didn't get it due to the missing parts and work needed to sort it out, so i'll keep looking and hopefully something better will come along soon.

If id bought that, idve used the "gingery" method.
Cast a "temporary" tail stock, and machine the bore with a drill in the headstock.
Use the temporary tailstock to machine a second, more accurate one.(cast from a 70/30 Zn/Al alloy - or wheelium)
